We really can’t tell you much about Marco Mazzoni because his web presence is slim on information. However, what we can tell you is that he’s a gifted illustrator that works with colored pencils on paper, and produces work that combines female faces, winged creatures and flowers. Beautiful and eerie, his works are highly technical as witnessed by his ability to capture ‘sheen’ in eyes and noses, and depict chapped lips. However, there’s also a unique softness to how he blends color and segues from white space to skin tones on faces (the latter of which is notable for how he layers color to achieve translucence). Unlike oil paint for example- which you can ‘work’ to blend different colored pigments- Mazzoni is achieving sophisticated color blends with pencils which speaks volumes about his mastery of the medium. Illustrators should take note of his work and follow Marco Mazzoni on Tumblr.
I “finished” this a while ago…and by finished, I mean I got tired of working on it and threw it in a drawer, and found it just a few minutes ago. Oops! Well here it is, at any rate.
Whew, it’s finally done. Presenting a quite youthful Benedict Cumberbatch! It’s far from perfect, but oh well.
It occurred to me while I was working on this that it looks rather like a graduation photograph, although I have no idea if it is…anyhow, I just really liked the photo (what can I say, I’m powerless to a good black-and-white).
Sometimes I do arts.
